Which light bulb is my brake light

I have 4 tail lights tryin to figure out whice 1 suppose to come on when u mash the brake is all four suppose to come on or just 2

On a 96, there should be 3 bulbs in the lens assembly per side. The top one is the brake light bulb, the middle is the signal bulb, and the bottom one is the back up light.
