1995 Lincoln Town Car shifter

Car only has park and reverse. It will go all the way down but it does not catch any gears and u can't feel the shifter try to catch any gears but it will catch reverse and park. I can put it in drive by the linkage on side of trans if it's the cable is their anything like alldata for free to use as a guide or something like that

Position transmission shift lever in Overdrive position. Hold shift lever against rear overdrive stop with a constant force of about 3 lbs. (1.4 kg). Loosen shift control cable retaining nut at transmission. Ensure transmission/transaxle manual lever is in Overdrive position. Overdrive is second detent from rear most position.
Tighten shift control cable retaining nut to 13-17 ft. Lbs. (17-23 N.M). Check transmission operation in each position. Ensure neutral start switch and back-up lights operate properly.
Try adjusting it but trans is probably shot have a trans guy look at it.
