Would a airbag/clock spring in a steering column make the steering harder to turn? Also after making a turn the steering does not go back to center after the turn. Is there an actual spring in a clock spring? The airbag warning lite is not on. It is also for cruise control. The power steering itself seems to be o.k. The steering column behind the wheel makes a scraping sound when turned. Could the spring be broken but the electronic connections still be good?

not the clock spring

have the suspension checked for any seized front end parts.

the steering box may be at fault.

have the alignment checked as the caster angle has a lot to do with this condition
