Out of gas

I have 1995 chevy tahoe 4x4 5.7 v.8 carb. I started having problems with it after I had run out of gas one time ever since its been giving me trouble starting it up. The check engine light is on and it was still functioning but to the point that I would have to press the gas peddle and hold it down to turn it on. Now its just not starting anymore it cranks up but wont start. Some say its the fuel pump some say its the carburator what is your diagnosas?

Check engine light on:
Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.
