I try to shift out of park and the gear shift just slides. It feels like its not catching anything. I went underneath and the end of the cable that is connected to the tranny doesnt move. No cables or anything is loose. So im not sure if it is a cable problem or what

More commonly the end of the cable under the dash popped out of the lever, but if that is still intact, the flexible cable broke off the metal rod on one end, and the assembly will have to be replaced. Also check the outer casing under the dash to be sure it's still anchored securely. If the casing can move, the cable inside it won't.
