You'll have to compare mounting styles to see what interchanges. A used generator is a real bad idea on GMs. There's no way to sugar-coat it. GM went from the second best generator to the world's worst pile starting with the 1987 models. They are known for locking up and for developing huge voltage spikes that interfere with the many unnecessary computers on the car. It is very common to go through four to six replacement generators in the life of the car. What many professionals are finding out is to reduce the number of failures, they are replacing the battery at the same time. Your old battery might work fine in older cars, but as they age they lose their ability to absorb those voltage spikes. In all other respects including starting the engine, they are still fine.

A lot of running problems on GM vehicles have been caused by the voltage spikes. To diagnose that, just unplug the small connector on the side and see if engine performance returns to normal.
