94 Mitsubishi Eclipes, alternator goes out as I was driving, restarted with a jump pack and after starting, no reverse or drive, automatic trans seems to be out. Can the alternator going out mess up trans? Shifter linkage seems ok in terms
of the arm on top of trans is moving. No other issues with trans, i.e. slipping/or missing a shift.

Yes, when there is insufficient voltage, the transmission control would mess up.

Thanks for the reply! I've located what I believe is the trans control module under the radio area. There are
3 boxes under there, 2 mounted and 1 loose in the front near firewall. The mounted are the ecm and tcm?
Also can the be tested and if so, by whom?

Have you resolved the charging problem?

There are no actual way of testing TCM or ECM. Usually a substitution is used for confirming if either of this is bad. TCM is the one bolted to lower part while ECM is on top.

Currently I'm using a jump pack. I'll resolve the charging issue by getting the alternator fixed.
Then go from there. A brief search for remanufactured ones are costly enough, so I was hoping
it could be tested. I'll see about getting an estimate on a substitution, as you were saying.

Again thank you again for pointing me in the right direction, as everyone else was saying it was mechanical.

You need to get the charging problem resolved first. Once the charging is good, check all ground circuits and ensure that they are tight and secure.
Check all fuses as well.
Check for trouble codes.

It turns out the alternator is good and the battery was bad. Installed new battery and there
is no change in the trans., still no drive/reverse etc.

So back to the original action, battery goes out as you are driving, causing the trans to go out?
Could the TCM go out and not to into [limp mode]?

Unless surging of power supply had occurred, otherwise the TCM should not be affected by the battery failing.

At the transmission, disconnect the valve body connector. Start engine and engage D or R. If you have any gears, the transmission control module or valve body has a fault. The other possibility is a faulty
torque converter or dislodged drive trains.
