The gear in my Mitsubishi diamante frequently gets stuck in three and the neutral light begins blinking. When I switch off and restart engine, the problem disappear for a while. What is causing this?

An error has been detected by the PCM and when stuck in third gear means it is in "LIMP MODE". You need a scan to retrieve the trouble and proceed from there.

Autozone and most parts stores provides free scanning services, get the code and post them here.

Sorry, yours is pre 1996 so could be OBD-I codes and you might not be able to get the codes read.

Use the link to get the trouble codes.
