How do I check for spark on a 94 dodge shadow and what and where is the distributor pick up

It's a common failure item under the distributor cap and rotor. Looks like a round disc with a wire and three-pin plug.
Checking for spark is pretty basic. Pull one spark plug wire off the spark plug, stick a screwdriver into the terminal and lay it close to a metal part of the engine, but not touching it. Have a helper crank the engine and watch to see if sparks jump from the screwdriver to the engine.
