Hi,

I am from the UK and drive a TVR Griffith, with a five litre V8 engine based on an Oldsmobile/Buick block.

During a repair two years ago paper towel was left in the engine sump. It was subsequently picked up and got stuck in the oil pick up, causing oil starvation and ruining my engine.

The mechanics who last removed my sump say paper cannot survive in a sump for that time and will in any case be flushed out by an oil change.

Are they correct to say this in your view.

If you could let me know, I'd be very grateful.

Regards

Nope paper doesnt' disintegrate like it does in water. If you still have it put it in a plastic bag when you go to court you have evidence. Or take a pic of it if you still haven't removed it.

Hi thanks for your answer. I see from your profile you have an 1980 MGB. I had a 1979 for 13 years.

Fortunately I have pictures of the paper.

Do you think an oil change would flush out paper if it was stuck in the pick up filter?

No It maybe would drop in pan but would be picked right back up as the sump is like a 1/4" from bottom. Only if you could grab it and pull it out
