Engine noise

I have a 1993 toyota corolla and there is a ringing/chirping noise coming from either my engine or some close to it, and at time it almost sounds like something is clicking. The noise gets louder when I accelerate and is very noticeable when I turn off the ignition.

Check the belts to make sure they are tight and in good condition. At an idle, pour a little water on them to see if the sound changes. If it does, the belt is loose or needs replaced. NOTE: Protect your eyes and clothing because the water will spit back at you.
