I put in new tranny and truck want shift out of first gear

I can manueally shift from first to second but when I put it in thrid gear it acts as if I had put it in neatrul it has to be a sensor or tcm but not sure if a 93 model has a tcm or a ccm do they if they do were is it in the suburban
