1993 chevy cavalier, will start then after a minute our 2 of a good idle it starts to slow idle to about 800 rpm then it really starts to choke, sputter and backfire, and it stalls out. Then it will not fire up again, when I turn the key I can hear the starter turning but nothing more. So then if I give it 10 or 15 min off, I can stafrt it again then its right back to square one. The battery is only 2 yrs. Old, But I do live in Alberta and it is -16 C outside, what could be causing this?

How long since a tune-up? Do you use a block heater? Any applicable mil codes, you can check those yourself? When the problem occurs, have a helper crank it, while you check for spark at the spark plugs. If you have spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure. You have to test when the problem is ongoing.
