1992 GMC C3500 Tranny

The transmission doesn't shift into drive. The check engine light is on, does engine performance affect transmission performance? The truck seems to run fine but it won't shift up into drive. The older trannys had a modulator valve to assist shifting but I don't know what the newer models are like.

Scan for codes first it may be an internal trans problem however.

Thanks. I am having a problem with scanning the motor. Either the scanner isn't working or I don'y know what else it might be.

The scanner starts up and identifies the engine code but tells me that it can't retrieve and information from the computer. It tells me to hook up the connection which is already hooked up?
