I have a It is a 1991 model 1.6 ltr. Marinized VW Diesel and just changed the timing belt (hired diesel mechanic to do this). It started but quit in a few minutes and will not start now. Changed the solenoid in the compressor and bleed water (not much) out of the filter system.
1) put in new timing belt.
2) put in new water pump
3) put in new thermostat
4) put in new compressor "stop" solenoid

It ran briefly then stopped like it had no fuel Checked fuel filter, bled off just a little water, about a tablespoon,
It started and ran but overheated took out new thermostat and found it was stuck put in old thermostat
started but only ran a few minutes and stopped. Read manual and replaces compressor stop solenoid with new one checked elect power to solenoid and it was "ON" Checked oil and not fuel in oil.

NO. It seems to be a fuel problem either an air lock or something similiar

Open the #1 fuel line and see if you can bleed out any air.
