I have a 1991 Mazda 626. It sat for about a week and I drove it to the store and back. (About 3 minute drive) and when I tried to drive it again it wouldn't go into gear.

My husband just cranked the car on and smoke started coming out (some wires started burning under the steering column) and now it goes in reverse.

Check the stop lamp fuse and also the brake switch-You got some serious problem here -best have the electrical system check to find out what burned underneath the steering column
