I have a 1991 ford tempo gl, the car was completly warmed up, but no matter what gear I put it in it would not budge, I held my foot on the brake and ran it through the gears one at a time, did that a few time would not budge in any gear, didnt even move, like the tranny is completely locked up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

So have you checked the trans fluid level? Must be done while car is running. These cars are notorious for leaking trans cooler lines.

This was a sudden thing? There were no warning signs/other indications of a problem before this event?

When you put out of park into any other gear, can you push the car? Can you move it by pushing?

Hi, yes I can push the car forward & backward when I take it out of park. And about 6 month ago it was having problems shifting into gears, so I brought a tranny screen kit and it seemed to be pretty good after that, except sometimes when the car was cold and not warmed up good it was having problems going into gear mostly drive. So do u think the tranny is gone. And is it common for all gears including reverse to go at the same time. Thank you so much for ur respones. Greatly appreciated

Not common for all gears to quit simultaneously. None of the gears working points to something simple you might say. Possibly a valve body inspection cleaning would clear it up. I'm not a trans expert myself. I've owned 3 tempos with no trans problems at all. The only question I have is if your trans has any solenoids. I dont think so but i'm not sure. If so, then that may have gone bad. Be sure to check if your kickdown arm is still connected from the throttle body.

Hi, as far as solenoids i'm not sure, I called aamco and the man said it could be a electronic problem not sending a signal, but as far as anyone looking at it I am waiting for my son to get time to at least see if any things broke or disconnected. And like u he know alot about cars but always owned manaual trannys, so i'm hoping it something simple, if I find out anything I will email u back and if u hear anything about a solenoid or electrical. Please let me know. Again thank you

Take the oil cooler lines off and place in a bucket, start the engine and check for oil flow, if none the trans oil pump or torque converter is at fault, a scan will check for any electrical problem as well, start here.

Hi, I will check them, I really need to know and what I read online about the tranny its a FLC ATX-3 SPEED HYDRAULIC AUTOMATIC TRANAXLE. It was controlled by a throttle or "kickdown" cable, and had no computer controls. So would u know if that means no electronics or solenoids or anything like that. If u know it would be greatly appreciated and would solve the problem it being electrical. Thank you for responding

I will check this transmission out and let you know, but I do feel it will be a fully mechanical box with no electrics involved.
