My gears are not shifting into place at first, then eventually do but when I left off the clutch to drive the car, the RPMs shoot up and the car will not drive. The car will not even start up and makes a very screeching noise as if the gears are grinding away. What is causing this?

Symptoms indicates a fault in the cluch system.

Yes, you would need a new cluth.

Symptoms indicates the clutch is slipping and is worn.
