I just bought a automatic 1990 Nissan 300zx, and the car drives, you can go into 1st gear, 2nd gear and reverse. When I drive it, it won't go past 2 gear meaning it won't go past like 35 mph. Once I go past it, all that happens is the engine just keeps running. Also, none of the gauges work. What will make it shift gears right? I need help asap!

The 3rd speed is missing and you would need to have it checked by a transmission specialist. Most probably you need a new transmission.

Sorry for missing this out. For the gauges not working, check the fuses, one or more could be blown and this might affect the transmission shifting as well. Get this done first.

So you think it has nothing to do with the timing belt?

No, slipping in gear has nothing to do with timing belt. Only performance related problems could be linked to the timing belt.

In underdash fuse box. Don't only check for one, check all of them as more than one might be bad. You wwould need to check for power supply to the fuses as well as fusible links under hood could be bad and not supplying power to more than one fuse.
