I have a original 1990 Yj Jeep with a 4.2 liter straight six and a automatic transmission. I had an oil leak from the transmission, a small seal under the Throttle Valve Lever. I removed the Throttle Valve Lever, Throttle Valve Control Lever and the Throttle Rod to expose the seal. I replaced the seal and reinstalled the above items yet the jeep would not go into PARK. I then followed tthe Haynes Repair Manual and adjusted the Upper Shift Rod, and Throttle Rod to their specks. This procedure was performed over and over yet yet to no avail. Currently the transmission will into PARK and start, yet when shifting the transmission will not engage and chick into the various gears.
The problem seems to be in the vertical shaft coming out of the transmission that the Throttle Valve Lever attaches to. By the way this Jeeps transmission worked perfect before I decided to wrench on it.
What I need is:
1) a procedure to reinstate the shifting from this vertical shaft from the transmission that again connects to the Throttle Valve Lever(sorry I don't know the name of this item) cordinated with the shifter on the steering column.
2) The correct way to adjust the throttle Throttle Valve Control Rod and
3) The correct way to adjust the Upper and Lower Shift Rods.
Your help is Greatly appreciated,
Givie
