Ground problems?

I'm having problems with my 1990 2.3l ford ranger. I removed the motor and tranny awhile back and I've just got it back in. But now my fuel pump ain't kicking on and my abs control module is getting hot after awhile. There was a ground wire going back by the starter somewhere but I couldn't figure out where it went to. So I put it on the motor mount. I straight wired the fuel pump but it still won't start. I can squirt gas into the intake and it will fire up. So my question is is it the ground or something else

A while back? That may be the issue and from your description, the pump has failed. Replace it. Make sure there is power to the pump. You can use the primer wire in the obd 1 port to put 12 volts directly to the pump.

Power the fuel pump direct from the battery and see if it turns on-start here

I straight wired the fuel pump off the wire that goes back from the fuel cutoff button. And it kicked on. But its not fireing up its getting gas to the bleeder valve but that's it.
