I have a 1990 chevy s10 2wd, and it seems hard to press the gas pedal smoothly especially in traffic. I have to press it kinda hard to get the truck going, but at the same time its like launching off a starting line, What can I do to solve this problem in order to have a soft gas pedal

Check under hood for obstruction/other problem with linkage. If ok you could try replacing gas pedal cable.

I have this exact same problem with my 86' S10. It could be any of the following things:
-Gunk in the Throttle Body (easy clean)
-Throttle Position Sensor is bad (replace)
-Throttle Position Sensor is not calibrated properly
-Gas Pedal inside the cap is loose (tighten it up and lube it)
-a linkage from the accelerator cable and the TBI is wonky

If you run some codes with an ODB1 computer, you'll be able to tell if its the TPS or something mechanical that's wonky along the throttle linkages.

I've just brought my truck in this morning to put in a brand spankin' new throttle body injection unit, but that's probably overkill. I'll let you know if its a linkage, and I've wasted my money.
