Manual transmission check

How do I check my manual transmission fluid? Car feels a little sticky putting shifter into gears. The transmission hasnt been serviced in as long as I can remember but I would like to change or check fluid. Clutch feels normal and is still pretty new. This symptom was most noticable on cold cold mornings or long sitting. 10-30 degrees and/or sitting for a few days.

Filler plug is on R/H side of transmission with a drain plug at the bottom, fill oil till it starts to dribble from the filler plug, check specs sticker under bonnet for correct oil type.
