1988 Ford F-250 Gear shifting

My father's F-250/350 has trouble shifting gears. The cab shifted, which required changing the linkage so the truck would stay in gear. We fixed the cab and now the transmission will change from 1st to 2nd at about 30 mph, and 2nd to 3rd at about 50 mph. How do we adjust the transmission (linkage, or whatever) to shift gears at the appropriate speed?

Did you change the linkage or just readjust it?Move selector lever rearward against stop in "D" position. On models with column mounted shift levers, hold lever against stop by hanging an 8 lb. (3.6 kg) weight from selector lever.
Loosen manual lever-to-control cable (or rod) retaining nut. Move transmission manual lever to drive position (second detent from rear). Hold selector against rear of "D" position and tighten retaining nut. Check for normal operation in all selected positions.
