Where can I find a fuel filter assembly for a late 1986 Ford Ranger

I broke the fuel filter assembly when I was taking it off and have been unable to find one. If one cant be found would an inline fuel filter work.

Where is this broken piece? There is only 1 fuel filter and it has plastic clips that you remove. They break often and can be purchased at any parts store.
