I have replaced the entire gasket group for the top of the engine. Its a 5.7 holley performance engine. All new spark plugs. Spark plug wires. New distributor cap with built in ingnition coil and new rotar button. It has a holley 600 cfm carb 4 barrel I have re timed this engine 3 times but still it backfires thru the carb. Any words of advice?

Check for a worn cam or a pushrod that has come off on the exaust side find what cylinder it is first by reomving plug wires one at a time until it stops then pull that side valvecover off. Start engine and if 1 rocker arm isn't going up and down like the others then the camshaft is worn probably. Or ook for a pushrod off of rocker arm or through it.
