1983 GMC Sierra fuel problem

I have a 83 gmc sierra. My truck seems to run out if gas eventhough I have fuel in it. What could be the cause? The pump is attached to the block. If I crank it back up I can continue as long as I slowly press the accelerator. If I press it harder it shuts off again.

If it does this all the time we have to look at a carburetor problem or something with the fuel supply, meaning the pump or mainly the filter. If it runs okay for a few minutes or a few miles before it acts up the filter is not the cause. That symptom is commonly caused by a plugged or collapsing pickup screen in the tank.
