I turn the key over and my engine starts to race meaning it sounds louder and louder if I leave the key on so I turn the key off in fear im going to blow my engine what is it that is sticking or causing this to happen and also how come my carburator doesnt kick down anymore when the vehicle is actually running halfway normal? I have the rochester dualjet 2 bbl carb.

First thing take some choke cleaner and clean all the linkage clean the choke plate on both sides so it moves freely. Then have a mechanic see if he can see if the linkage is hanging up. You won't blow your car up just will idle very fast. Here is a link for a manual if you want to try to fix yourself. I have included a pic of choke linkage area to clean as well as choke plate.
