1982 Daihatsu Charade 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

It's actually a 3cyl..I just HAD the engine mounts replaced, so it's probably not them causing it, but I can't seem to get the idle to relax and smooth out.. It's always 'chuggy'..I have checked the vacuum hoses ans they seem ok, and it runs well at speed.. There seems to be a 'harmonic' factor at plat here too, as at certain points in the RPM range it nearly vibrates the car to pieces.. The only way I am able to drive it is to keep the idle super-low(around 600).. The thing is, too, is that I am adjusting the idle by metering the brass knurled screw at the rear of the carb.. The idle stop does nothing..I'm probably f***ing around with the mixture, uh? The plugs and leads are in good nick, but I haven't checked the fuel filter as the enging zips in the higher RPM range.. The exhaust may have a tiny flange leak as it's a bit 'boomy'..I dunno..

Hello dodgy_dogg

I am having the same problem with my charade too. I replaced my fuel pump regulator, air filter, tried many settings of carb for idle, no hose leak, and my muffler/exhaust is has a noticable loud unfine sound. I also notice it turned to consume fuel alot now. Tremendous fuel consumption for a 3 cylinder. I can actually compare it with my 2.0 nissan bluebird. Do you have the same problem too? Because my mechanic told me, it must be my carburetor that I need to replace seends it a very old 1, even though I had it overhauled months ago, the mechanic says it might turned out to be a faulty carburetor. I havent replaced it yet since im a little depressed already with this issue. Did you happen to fix your problem already? What did you do? Every one that has any idea. Please help.
