I have a 1981 toyota pickup 2w drive. I am having acceleration problems. The engine starts fine, goes through fast and slow idle fine. But when you give it any gas I dies. I managed to plug the choke with a rag allowing only 25-35% air intake. I then drove 120 miles with no problems can anyone help me?

Seems to be a fault with the power or accelerating jet system. Servicing the carburettor should work.

I am quite mechanically savy. Should I consider getting a rebuild kit and just do it myself.

Servicing the carb is not too difficult and since you are a DIY person, you should be able to do it. Pay attention to the jets and passages.

Repair manual for this model is not found in our database so I am not able to offer you any diagrams.

Good Luck.
