I can't get it to shift out of 1st gear or go into reverse. It does drive forward but I don't have the T case 4WD selector hooked up ( I dont have one that fits at the moment) and the T case will slip out of gear. Sometimes it will shutter before it goes into gear. Tranny was pulled out of a working truck.

Second: I filled the T case with fluid and it seems to be puking out everywhere. I just filled it till it came out of the hole so I am guessing it is a gasket issue between the tranny, adapter plate and t case? T case was also pulled from a working truck.

Also forgot to mention, the reason I put in a new tranny and T case is because the front U joint went out smashing a hole in the floorboard. Tranny and T case were ruined in the process.

The person I purchased the tranny from is still in contact with me so I have no reason to doubt him lying to me? He is going to give me the proper selector to fit up to the T case this weekend. Care to shed some insight on the questions previously asked that I could look into?

Thanks.

The transmission is not leaking. What are some specific things I can troubleshoot to find out why the transmission will not go into reverse or engage properly into reverse or other gears?

Might as well tell guy it dont work and return or adjust price f you need core to rebuild. I mean you can pull pan and look it over but I suspect it needs rebuild or valve body cleaning. At least there are good books on doing this stuff for these older trans.

I appreciate your input & time thus far fixitmr.

In response to the last comment you posted, the answer completely ignores my question about troubleshooting the issue as a true mechanic would do before ripping out the transmission for a rebuild because they "suspect it needs a rebuild".

I'm not a trans specialist and I doubt there are any on this site. The kickdown should be in valve body area inside pan so like I said that would be a troubleshoot thing to do. I mean it makes no sense if it worked in other truck it dont work now? My other thought was water has rusted the valve body part(s)same scenario, pull pan and check around.
