When I start my 1979 Chevrolet Luv with an Isuzu 1.8l gasoline straight 4 engine it makes a strange ticking sound. My first thought was valves or an exhaust leak, it is not low on oil, coolant or any other fluids. So I want to know if this is a zero clearance engine and how I might be able to locate an exhaust leak if that's all it is.

I've never tried this, but, I have heard of using seafoam to find an exhaust leak. Engine running, take vacuum line loose, let it suck up the seafoam. It may may kill the engine, let the engine sit for 7 or 8 minutes. Restart the vehicle, look for white smoke everywhere except the end of tail pipe.

As far as the ticking, use an analog gage in place of oil pressure sending unit and double check oil pressure.

The oil gauge that is in the truck usually reads about 50-60psi at idle (seems a little high) could this be problematic?
