Car Antenna System Questions and Answers

MORE: Car antenna questions with answers

This category contains featured questions as examples. They relate to most vehicles.

Question:   2004 Toyota Avalon miles: 56,000 I came out to my car today and the antenna was hanging by the side of the car?...   I don't know what happened but I had to cut the plastic line that was connecting it to the car. What do I do now? Do I need the whole new antenna?

Answer: Sorry about your antenna. The good news is that you can change it to a new antenna mast pretty easily. First undo the top mounting nut then turn the radio on, the remainder of the feed will be ejected. Then prepare your new mast for installation. Turn Radio off to feed the new mast down. Reattach mounting nut.

Question:   2001 BMW 325i, miles 45,000. I have a question, if the antenna motor doesn't make the mast go up but it is getting power is the motor bad?, or the something else that could cause it not to work?

Answer: If the actuator motor is receiving power then check the ground for the system. Sometimes the connection is loose or corroded. A simple cleaning or tightening can correct our problem. If ground circuit is good, replace the antenna unit.

Question:   2004 Chevrolet Astro Van 95,000. I replaced my antenna with a after market kit. I thought it looked cool so I put it on. Now Fm radio works ok but the am radio is all static ? What is up?

Answer: Thanks for this question. If the antenna you installed housing is connecting the metal body. It grounds itself and becomes inactive. Use the proper insulators and the problem should go away.
