I have a 1989 Cutlass Ciera, and just yesterday the antenna stopped working. See, the antenna has, up until this point, retracted into the car whenever I turned off the radio or turned the car itself off.

Now, if I turn off the radio or turn the car off, the antenna will not go down, but instead make a grinding, straining noise, like the antennae is trying to retract, but can't. I've tried pushing it down, to see if it was just stuck, but that didn't work.

Even when the car is off, the motor responsible for bringing the antenna down is running, and won't retract the antenna.

I was able to fix the problem by pulling the fuse from the fusebox that runs this whole thing, but when I do that, many of my lights and interior functions stop working as well.

I have been trying to locate the wire that goes to the antenna, so I can just cut it, and then the antenna will remain up all the time, but have not been able to. Anything you guys know about this will help me a lot. Thanks!

The way it work you have a plastic line with gears on the side of it
and a motor with a disk gear
when you turn radio on it supply power to make the motor turn and when you turn off it will reverse the power making motor turn the opposite causing the antenna to come down
know what happen is that plastic will break and the antenna will be stuck in that position
you need a rebuilt kit or diff unit good luck
