Wont shift out of 1st gear please help

My 1989 toyota supra automatic
When I drive the car it wont shift out of 1st gear my rpm goes to high by the time I catch speed but some people tell me its my speed sensor but I want to know if it is or not all my gears work just doesnt shift
I appreciate if you can help me out thank you

The VSS, vehicle speed sensor runs the speedometer and from that, the transmission knows when to shift. If the computer things the car isn't moving, it won't shift from first.

But by any chance do you know hpw much would that cost if I take it to a transmission shop?

There are actually two sensors on this vehicle. One is on the transmission and the other behind the dash. I wouldn't expect either to take more than an hour labor. The parts are another story. I can't find a listing for them.
