Air Conditioning problem
2005 Volvo S40 Automatic 98,000 miles

I was told by the Volvo dealer that the seal is bad on the ac unit/compressor. They told me they can't replace the seal without buying the compressor, that it comes as a "unit". The seal is only $2-3, why should I have to pay $1000?

Please help

Are you saying that the dealership is correct: I do have to get a whole new compressor?

I'd like to know for sure if it is possible to replace the seal on a Volvo AC compressor.

Nobody pull a compressor apart for seal the labor would be costly and I would never warrent work. The leak caused comp to run without sufficiant oil which will result in failure. Average AC repair according to MAC is $1200

I agree with the DOC. You never really now how much damage was done to the compressor from the loss of oil and how long you have before the compressor failes after the repair. The labor would be to expensive to take apart as well.
