Volvo 740 Fuel pump Problem

1988 Volvo 740 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 100000 miles
my car suddenly loses all power as im driving. and wont start back up for hours or sometimes days. I was told my fuel pumps were going out, but that wasnt the problem. then i was told to change the spark plugs, and still the same problem. someone told me it could be an electrical problem. someone else said the ignition coil went out. What should i do? I cannot afford to keep troubleshooting and getting no results. Help!!!!!
