I have been told by 3 different mechanics, (over the phone since my wife took the car in) that there are some vaccume hoses off the intake that are cracked and letting too much air in resulting in a malfunction of my MAF I have looked all over and have not seen these hoses, I don't doubt the mech's but I just can't seem to find the hoses. The engine idle sucks and I have poor gas mileage so I know that I need to replace them but the mech's want nearly $600 to fix it and I don't feel like over paying for vaccume lines.

Hi klbauer,

Thank you for the donation and sorry for the delay in replying.

What is the engine type?

The correct engine type is required to get the required data.

It is a 1.8t and the intalke seems to go under the engine, I have looked at all of the vaccume hoses I can and they don't look cracked at all but I still haven't checked under the car yet. Thank you.

The vacumn hoses are rather messy with many of them running around. I have the diagrams here but it might take some familiarisation before you understand them.
