Possible blown headgasket
Engine problem
1999 Volkswagen Beetle 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 107,51 miles
I have a 99 Beetle 2.0 non-turbo, it's blowing exhaust fumes out the water coolant reserve holding tank, plus overheating. I believe it has a blown head gasket or a cracked head. My son drove the vehicle when it was low on coolant and it overheated. What should the cost be for a garage to replace the head gasket? or if it needs a new head? about what should the cost be. I do not want to get ripped off. How many labor hours are involved. I may can do the job myself. I'm a pretty good shade tree'r.
Thanks,

if it overheated chances are the gasket is bad and the head needs to be remachined if it warped.
I do not know what a machine shop would charge in your area for that, it will be about 5-6 hours labor for the headgasket replace.
