I have a few question dealing with a 37 yr. Old car. Are the rear axels supposed to have play pulling them in and outward toward the tire? Is that normal or is it wore out?

2, Gas smell when we turn on the heater? What's up?

3. The bug runs great but willnot idle. We have tried turning up the idle screw on the cam at the left of the carb. But it still dies especially when warm.

Hi there,

You will have worn bearings in the rear there should be no play, check for a fuel leak around the engine, there is often a filter in line at the rear of the engine check that, and start with a full tune and read a VW book as the carby settings are very specific.
