My car pops out of 4th gear while driving. My manual says to replace shift shaft detent spring. Where is the shift detent spring located on.

I don't think that is a shaft shaft detent spring problem. Symptoms indicates a bad synchroniser ring.

Shift detent spring is behind the locking blot at side of transmission. There would be 3 bolts in a line near to each other somewhere near the shift level on transmission housing. The center one would be for the shift fork.
