A friend tried to put an aftermarket stereo in my truck. I had a 6-disc changer Bose speakers amp. He cut the plugs then disassembled the plug. The truck starts and shuts off as soon as it starts. I can hear the fuel pump kick on, I put resistor in the ignition to bypass passkey, I've tried to relearn it several times, rewired the plug put radio back in still no run.

Hi,

Is the anti-theft light stay on at all times? As far as the radio, I tried looking through schematics. There are several to pick from. If you look below, I included the list. Can you identify which one your vehicle originally came with? That way I can look at the specific wiring schematics to determine if the connector was put back together correctly.

I know there are a few serial data lines that reach splice packs on different options. In these cases, they are controlled via the body control module, so I really need to be specific. I hope you understand.

Let me know.

Joe

Brian,

I'm sorry, but I am required to keep everything online. I hope you understand.

So, if I understand correctly, you installed the drain wire and removed the ignition switch, correct? If that is correct, when you turn the key on now, what is happening? Do the lights on the dash turn on or does nothing happen? Also, are there any other electrical components that are affected?

Let me know.

No, I put the radio plug back together except for the drain wire to the radio. Turn the key dash lights come on, starts then shuts off. The PCM and BCM have no hot places on the circuit boards. I've checked everything, do you think the PCM just needs reprogramed?

Will the truck start and run if you disconnect the radio? Also, I don't feel a relearn on the PCM will fix this. Let me know if it runs if the radio (OEM radio, correct?) Is disconnected. I suspect in some way, the antitheft is related.

I just need confirmation. Two posts up you indicated it wouldn't even crank. Your last post indicates it starts and stalls. Which is presently happening?

Let me know.

Hi,

If you turn the ignition and nothing happens, let's see if a fuse failed when you removed the switch. There are two 40-amp fuses under the hood I need you to check, Ignition A and ignition B. See pic below.

Check the fuse and confirm there is power to them.

Let me know if the starter is now engaging or not.

Joe

Hi,

Not being there makes this really difficult, so please bear with me. If you have repaired all wires to the radio and it still, does it, my next question is the resister you installed. Please explain where you installed it. Do other electrical components seem to be working correctly?

Brian, if possible, could you take a few pictures of all the electrical work that has been done so I can look at it and compare it to schematics? It may help.

Let me know.

Yes, I will send pics and I put the resistors in the switch wires from yellow to black like all the videos showed to do on YouTube, but then I found mine is a passkey 3 not a pass lock so thinking didn't even have to do that.

Sorry not to have sent pics but here is my situation I am from North Carolina. I am currently in Florida stranded cause this person messed up my truck. Wired the plug for radio back and put radio in it after I found the pinout schematics for it. I put a resistor between the yellow and black switch wires. Then the battery was weak, so I put brand new battery in it then several relearns. I have checked every fuse, relay over and over. Took the BCM and PCM apart visual inspection no burnt spots on circuit board nowhere. Every wire in BCM and PCM is hot that is supposed to be. Under hood fuse box the hot wire leads #2 for accessory it says should be hot always it is not. Just found this out. Took out ignition switch put it back in will not even turn over now with key so put toggle on starter tested every sensor except crank sensor because it is behind starter. I have worked on cars since I was able to hold a wrench for my dad.

Hi guys. Any chance this is all related to removing the radio? Remember, GM started building their Body Computers into their radios in some 2002 model trucks. I don't know which year included every truck model, but I was surprised to see that it didn't involve this 2005 model. I thought the Pass Key system was a '90s thing.
