Okay so my clutch makes a terrible screeching sound when taking off and is much worse taking off in 2nd gear (not that I would do that unless trying to make the sound). The clutch has apparently been replaced before, less than 100 000km ago. I have taken my car to a transmission guy and he says it needs to be replaced soon. The thing is it doesn't actually slip even when I try my best to make it, although it does grab. Crawling in traffic is impossible because when I apply a tiny pit of pressure to the accelerator in 1st the car jolts forwards, and jolts again when I release pressure from the accelerator.

So basically i'm not convinced the clutch needs to be replaced as it is a 10 year old car and has been replaced before, and it is also not slipping. Is there any other reason for the violent jolting at slow speeds? Or does the clutch really need replacing?

Any information will be appreciated, thank you.

Is this noise heard when you start to apply clutch pedal pressure, is there any vibration felt in the clutch pedal when the noise is happening?

The noise occurs as I release the clutch. I don't notice any vibration.

I feel that the clutch disc hub has failed, if you drive it it may totally fail with no drive, the box will have to come out to inspect it.
