Truck works in reverse, but when it is shifted into drive it will not move forward. Could it be the transmission position sensor causing the problem?

The truck was in a wreck, but there was no damage to the drive train. It was just body damage.

Check fluid level if you can as most dipsticks have been eliminated. Then scan for codes If it is a sensor it will show up. If body damage it may have broken cooler lines and emptied transmission. Also, check if cable shifted the cable may have been damaged and not shifting like you think it may be.

I have already checked the fluid it is good. It shifts fine it will move backwards, but it will not go forward. When put in drive it will move about a quarter of a inch but no more than that.

Then have a transmission specialist scan for codes may be an internal problem. Also, put transmission in first then see if it up-shifts if it does the sprag is broken inside transmission.
