My 1992 5 speed manual Toyota pickup jerks and almost stalls out while driving. I actually depress the excellerator to the floor and nothing, then all of a sudden it picks up and goes. It doesn't actually stall out.
The mechanic has it now and is puzzled, he's putting on a new mass air flow sensor. I've already replaced the plugs, wires and distributor cap.

Sounds like either the Idle air control, or the throttle possition sensor. Or a major vacuum leak. Has the fuel pressure been tested?

The fuel pressure was tested and the mechanic found out the fuel line was clogged. He cleaned out the fuel line and the problem seemed to go away but now it's happening again. I wonder if the gas tank has debris in it. The pickup was parked in someone's driveway for about a year before I purchased it. I put some gasoline additive in the tank and a bottle of heet when I first purchased the car about a month ago.

If the tank was near empty for that year, replace the tank, it's full of rust!
