Hi,
I bought this brand new 2010 Corolla LE last Jul 2009. After about a month, a small vibrating noise comes from the right side of the dash board near the glove box. It sounds like some thing below the plastic touching and vibrating on to the plastic. However, this sound comes very infrequently. I cant predict when this sound comes. I took it to the Hudson Toyota (Jersey City) Dealer and they say they have to hear the noise to fix it. But unfortunately the noise didnt show up after a lot of test driving. Finally I became a joker in front of all. Nowadays, the noise just shows up some time and it really irritates me. Its sometimes loud also. The solution I found out for this for temporary is to turn on the music loud! Could you please help me out? I am really confused what to do. The service manager is not at all agreeing that there is a problem with the car. And he sarcastically said cars will have minor sounds and squeaks. I even contacted the corporate sales group of toyota. Everybody says "We should hear the noise", then we will fix it for you. But unfortunately the noise doesnt show up.

HI there,

This is one of the most frustrating things to fix, but they are correct in the fact that they will have to hear the noise to start the diagnosis, as a warranty process Toyota will only allow a given time to fix problems, if it goes over the dealer will cop the bill, so as you can see they will not want to spend many hours chasing a noise that they can not hear, the only clue is that you say the noise goes away with the radio up loud, do you mean that this covers the noise or it actually makes it stop? If so it may be a loose speaker in the dash? Just a thought.

Hi Mark,
First of all thanks a ton for replying. I actually meant that I dont hear the noise when I turn on the volume of the music system because the music is lound. But as you said thats a valid point. But how do I find out? My car is LE version. I think it has only 4 speakers. I am not sure about it. 2 on the front doors and 2 on the back side behind the rear seats. I am not sure if there is a speaker under the dashboard. Should I remove the speaker cover on the front right door and give a check? Please advise.

Thanks,
Rahul

Hi there,

I would not worry if the speaker is in the door, but there is one thing you can check with the dealer, as you feel that the noise is in or around the glove box ask them if the A/C is factory fitted or fitted at the dealership, when I was a service manager at Toyota we fitted most A/C in the work shop, saying this because the A/C evaporator is fitted in behind the glove box and a plastic air duct is removed, there may be a small problem with the fit up of this, or the actual trim removed when the A/C was fitted, try this next.
