1993 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 172k miles

Hi, my wife went took her toyota corolla to the shop yesterday for a front wheel alignment since the place where she bought tires last week didn't offer alignments. When she arrived at the auto shop and the mechanic looked at the car she was told she would need all four wheels aligned, not just the front wheels. Feeling she didn't want to drive an unsafe car she consented. When she got home and told me what they charged her for I was baffled, I never heard of a four wheel alignment on a two wheel drive car. Am I missing something, or was this a scam?

No, rear alignment consists of adding shims to get correct alignment, and checking bushings and suspension components for wear.

Almost all cars have some provisions for rear alignment.

Not a scam, but some shops do charge more than they should for doing it.
