1993 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I replaced my passenger side cv shaft assembly and can never get the AXEL NUT and RETAINER to get the correct tension. If I tighten it too much the wheel doesnt spin and if not tight enough it makes a clunking sound. Is there a corect protocol for this?

Hi there,

You will have a problem with the hub or bearing, as you can do these up dead tight with out a problem, I think you better check fore a problem around the bearing and retainer.

These are equipped with a pressed in bearing, axle nut should be tightened to 100lbft.
As Mark pointed out you may have a problem with the bearing housing, like a cracked housing.
