How does this sytem work to advance the spark?

There ar two advance settings on a car with a dist. Mechanical advance and computer advance.

Mechanical advance is set with timing light. Computer advance is controlled by ECM.

The wiring schematics for the Carb version, mentions a Throttle Switch. Is this a Throttle Position Sensor? I replaced the Fuel Pump and Filter, and my car still spits and backfires when I go to accelerate. If I shift the car manually(3 sp auto), I can get the car to drive normal. Is it the accelerator pump in the carb, or the ign advance?

Something with fuel delivery.

If ignition related, it would do it all the time.
