Does red lining cause damage to the engine?

Hello, I own a 1995 Toyota Celica 1.8 ST. The mileage is at 76,000. The red line begins at 6,400 rpm and ends at 8,000 rpm. In the morning I was driving to work and I forgot to change the gear to second. The engine was not fully warm. The rev meter reached to 7,500 rpm until I noticed and changed the gear instantly. I would like to know if this may have caused any damage to the engine? If so, what sort of damage? Your help is much appreciated.

Anything internally-you're dogging it-maybe someday it will throw a rod then bingo new engine is needed.

Thanks for the fast response. What is the likeliness I have caused any damage to the engine? If any damage is caused, how will I find out?

When it starts making wierd noises. Normally it will come from the lower end of the engine-a lot of pounding is being done down there. Bearings/Caps

Dogging it, is where you're straining it, making it do something when it not suppose to.

You don't hear any wierd noises keep on driving don't worry about it, just take her easy and don't go up that close.

Ye I regret it now. Does the noises appear suddenly or after a while? Ive done it 2-3 times now.I have my music on loud so I cannot hear the engine. I am going to make sure I do not do it again.I get very paranoid :-P Oh yeah.I have another question if you can help? When my car is idol and has warmed up fully and the rev meter goes just below 1 rpm. My car begins to judder and the steering wheel vibrates too. Sometimes its quite bad and sometimes its ok. Would you know what this could be? Many Thanks, Your help is much appreciated.

You might consider a DIY major tune-up and go find the Idle Air Control Valve remove and clean it- See below
